Capturing Windows
Windows can be captured during measurement to record their position and width within the floor plan.
LX1 captures a window by recording two edges of the opening. Once both pause points are confirmed, the window feature is automatically added to the wall.
For most situations, the simplest and most accurate method is to measure directly from one side of the window opening to the opposite side.
The diagram below shows a typical flow:
Pause points before the window continue the wall measurement
Two pause points are taken across the opening to define the window width at points 3 and 4
Measurement then continues along the wall

Important
When measuring a window, capture the opening itself.
Move directly from one side of the opening to the opposite side.
Do not measure the side walls of the window recess before capturing the window.
Capturing the recess depth will add extra wall geometry to the floor plan and may cause the window to appear incorrectly positioned within the wall.
Recommended Method: Inside Edge to Inside Edge
Use this method when both sides of the window opening are accessible.
Place LX1 flat against the first inside edge of the window opening
Wait for the pause point confirmation
Tap Window in the app
Move directly to the opposite inside edge
Place LX1 flat and fully still against the surface
Wait for confirmation
The window width will then be added to the floor plan.
Note: After capturing a window, the app automatically switches back to Wall mode.

How LX1 Measures the Opening
As LX1 moves between the two placements:
Motion tracking measures the movement between pause points
The laser helps capture the direct distance across the opening
These systems work together to improve overall accuracy.
If the opening is partially blocked (for example, by blinds or furniture), LX1 continues measuring using motion tracking between placements.
Optional: Capture Window Sill Height
You can also record the window sill height while capturing the window.
To record the sill height:
After confirming the first edge and before moving directly across the opening to the opposite side:
Place LX1 flat on the windowsill with the LEDs facing upward toward the top of the window
Keep the device fully still until the pause point is captured
Then move to the opposite edge to complete the window measurement
The sill height will be recorded automatically.
Sill height is measured from the floor to the bottom of the window opening.

Alternative Method: Outer Edge to Outer Edge
If the inside edges are difficult to access, you can measure using the outer edges of the opening instead.
Place LX1 so the active reference point matches the side touching the opening
Wait for confirmation
Tap Window in the app
Move to the opposite edge of the opening
While moving, press the top arrow button on LX1 if the active reference point needs to switch sides
Place LX1 flat and still, then wait for the pause point confirmation
The window opening will then appear in the floor plan.
If you want to record the window sill height, you can capture it while measuring the window using the steps above.

Reference Point Guidance
The active reference point (shown by the LEDs) must match the side of LX1 touching the surface.
When measuring inside edge to inside edge, the same reference point is usually used for both placements
When measuring outer edge to outer edge, you may need to switch the reference point between placements
Using the correct reference point ensures LX1 records the correct measurement position.
Best Practice
For the most accurate results:
Use the inside edge method whenever possible
Move directly across the opening between the two window edges
Place LX1 flat and fully still against the surface
Move directly and smoothly between the two edges
Allow each pause point to fully confirm before moving
Corner or Multi-Wall Windows
Bay windows, corner windows and other windows that continue across multiple walls are measured one wall section at a time.
Complete the first window section as normal. Once the second window edge has been confirmed, the app will complete the window and automatically return to Wall mode.
If the same window continues onto another wall:
Before moving LX1 from the current pause point, tap Window again
Continue measuring the next section of the window
Confirm the opposite edge of that section
Repeat for each additional wall section
The floor plan will display the window as a single connected feature across multiple wall sections.
Example: A three-sided bay window is typically measured as three separate window sections — one for each wall face.
Long or Interrupted Windows
For very long windows or openings, you may need to pause partway through the measurement.
If this is required:
Place LX1 face up to create an ignored point
Continue moving toward the far end of the window
Place LX1 against the next window edge and continue measuring
Ignored points allow you to pause movement without adding an unwanted placement to the floor plan.
This can be useful when measuring:
Very wide windows
Corner glazing
Windows interrupted by furniture or access restrictions
Window sections that are too long to measure comfortably in a single movement
Once LX1 is placed against the next window edge, window measurement continues normally.
Result
Once a window section has been captured:
The window appears in the floor plan
The window width is recorded automatically
Window sill height is recorded if captured
The app automatically returns to Wall mode
For bay windows, corner windows and other multi-wall windows, repeat the process for each wall section until the entire window has been captured.
